Tonight

Tonight felt like football games in high school.

It felt like getting dressed up, hoping he would be there, hoping he would see me and remember that he loved me.

It felt like standing too close to all of my peers while they watched the game and I did my best to find him amongst them and make conversation with the friends I was there with.

It felt like cheap popcorn and hot chocolate shared with people I thought I would know forever, but haven’t spoken to in at least 10 years.

It felt like longing.

It felt like beginnings and middles and ends.
