Book Review: A Court Of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas
September 22, 2023
I’ve got to say, the first three books had me convinced me that I was going to read this series over and over, but the last two books have been a bit of a disappointment. I loved the first three and Feyre’s perspective, but the last two books have been from many perspectives, which I am not against, but it has been a difficult transition from reading things from one point of view to many.
Secondly, I am also getting rather tired of reading of war and winning the war and main characters almost dying, but not dying. Not that I want the characters that I have grown fond of to no longer be in the books, but I have become fully convinced that none of them are going to die because they are main characters, which doesn’t allow for much emotion.
I understand that wars aren’t quick and there is often more layers than I am aware of, but that is real life, and I am not reading ( listening to ) a book about another world with fae and monsters to hear more about a never ending war.
I am sad to say, I do not suggest the last two books of this series. I would have been happy to have had the series end at the third book. A Court of Silver Flames is more revolving around smut and war than I really care to listen to, and I am trying hard to complete the series, but I am only half way through this book and I am not sure I have the energy to finish it.
This review feels harsh, especially for such a beloved writer ( and one I, myself, have grown very fond of ) but I am disappointed with the way the last two books of this series have gone. The first three were exciting and unpredictable, whole these last two have felt lazy. Granted, Sarah is writing other series, while starting her family, so I should give her a little bit of a break, but I am tired of war and smut carrying the plot.
