Game Review: Lemoncake
September 18, 2023
I am not sure why I have not thought of reviewing things other than books and movies, but here we are, at my first game review. I cannot promise that I will have a lot of game reviews, but hopefully there will be a handful. Until recently, I did not care much for games and hadn’t had something to play game on ( except maybe my phone, but I do not have games on my phone ) until this summer when a dear friend of my husbands gave us a Nintendo Switch for our wedding gift. I must admit, I understand the hype around the Switch, now. It’s very versatile; you can play on your own, you can play on a tv or screen and you can purchase more controllers and play with a group of people. But this review is not about the Switch ( though I do love my Switch ) this is about a game for the Switch.
Lemon Cake is a cozy game about opening a bakery that has been neglected for a while. Over time you can pay ( with your money in the game ) for additions to your bakery and the apartment you live in above it. You get to create a character and pick out things for it to wear.
It really feels like the perfect game for autumn. The bakery is run by a little ghost named Bonbon and is visited by a ghost inspector named Inspector Mustache.
I will say, this is not just a cozy game, it is also very stressful. There is a lunch rush in the middle of the day and that can be chaos. The whole day is timed and you have multiple tasks that you have to complete and stay on top of in order to keep the cafe open during the day. Again, it is very cozy, but it also high energy.
All this being said, I suggest this game to anyone who enjoys a cozy game that does not require fighting, but I do not suggest this to anyone who gets overwhelmed and stressed easily.
