Today Feels Like The Zoo

May 12, 2023

When I was young, my mother had an in-home daycare so I spent a lot of time with them. Some years I was helpful, others I was a little young to be helpful, but my mom always had so many fun activities planned for the daycare kids, and I, more often than not, tagged along. She would take us to the fire station to learn about fire safety and get to sit in the firetruck. She would take us to the apple orchard in the fall and we would get to pick our own apples and learn about how apple sauce was made. But in the summer we would go to the zoo. My mom would not take us to the zoo on days that were hot and humid, no, she would take us on days when it rained. We would walk around with almost no one else competing for the best look at the animals, instead we were in our little rain jackets and soaking in all the time with the animals by ourselves.

Now, every time there is a warm, humid rain, it reminds me of walking around the zoo, holding warm hands and eating pb+jā€™s under umbrellas.
