Book Review: Spinning by Tillie Walden

March 22, 2024

This book is beautifully done. It is full of heart and, growing up in dance, I related to quite a bit of it.

The graphic novel is a memoir and coming of age tale looking through the lens of ice skating. Tillie grapples with growing up, trying to please the adults in her life, discovering her sexuality, the way relationships change overtime and unwritten expectations. She talks about being in something for years even after the passion for it has left and the friendships she built with some wonderful adults in her life.

Not only was this a visually appealing book, but it also touches on fear and self discovery in a way that feels very relatable and understandable. I highly suggest this book.
