Book Review: I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

December 21, 2023

I listened to this book on the way to and from work. Jennette herself reads the book and this feels personal and intimate. She gives each character the voice that they have in her head and this makes each of them feel all the more real.

I will start by saying that this is a book you listen to when you are feeling healthy. Jennette talks about her eating disorders and the physical, mental and emotional abuse she endured by her mothers hand. I highly suggest this book, and I highly suggest listing to this book, but with caution.

This book is wildly vulnerable and incredibly honest. Jennette does not shy away from the difficult topics or sugar coat the heart aches of her life. There is even a moment that she becomes choked up over the telling of her story, and it makes your heart ache for the way that she has been treated. It is beautifully written and bluntly read. I can only imagine how healing it must be to get all of this aired out and allowing these wounds to finally breathe.
