Book Review: The Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Colgan

December 28, 2023

Eli and I listened to this on the way to and from our Christmas trip and it was like a Hallmark Movie in book form. It is cute and twisty and leans into the sweet connection between sisters, aunts and their nieces and nephews, bosses and employees and self.

Overall this is sweet and cozy and, more than anything else, a love letter to Edinburgh. Jenny Colgan describes the city with such admiration and adoration that I am fully convinced that I need to visit at some point.

The reader of the audio book that we listened to was a delight to listen to. She reads the book in different voices, which makes listening to conversations not only easier to understand, but also more entertaining. Her voices are playful and fun and add so much to each of the characters.

After reading this book, I learned that there is a second book in the series and I am debating wether to listen to it this year, or add that to the top of my list for next Christmas.
