Spring Is On The Way

March 6, 2024

Spring is on the way

I can smell her in the air and feel her in the wind

the smell of damp earth and baking pavement wafts in through the windows

the wind has started to feel like a hug rather than a smack;

kisses rather than bites

the nuzzle of a warm kitten rather than its claws swiping at your hands

but the Sadness of winter still lingers

it has a death grip on me as I slowly thaw and feel more like myself again

its fingernail marks still around my heart

I try to fight her off every year, but she haunts me nonetheless

maybe someday she won’t bother me anymore

but for now I look forward to the sweet embrace of Spring

leaning into her deep hugs that peel back Sadness’s fingers one by one
