New Beginnings

July 14, 2023

It hasn’t really set in yet that I am no longer in the place I grew up, but we are here and we are ready to make new memories and try new things. I will tell you, I am so excited to see what we do here. I am so excited to learn new things and meet new people and discover new foods I love.

That is one thing I will say, the food here is incredible. I have never been much of a “foodie” but the food here may turn me into one.

The sun here is much hotter. The shade seems so much more sweet because the sun beats down so much harder. It felt significantly hotter than it did in Iowa. Granted, we are much closer to the sun here, but it is strange nonetheless. Not something I had thought about.

Everyone drives very confidently here. They are confident that you will get out of their way, they are confident that there will not be a car accident, that other drivers will keep up with their speed. It is pretty wild. Des Moines drivers are a lot more…considerate of others and I have to say, man am I glad I wasn’t learning to drive here. I would have never left the house.

There are so many things to do. There are events going on all the time, but there are also things that are just always happening. It is a very social city and it seems like there is never a lack of something to do both free and paid.
