Movie Review: Trap

August 23, 2024

I am a huge fan of M. Night Shyamalan. Honestly, almost anything he does I love. If you are new to this blog, I am a huge fan of twisty turns stories, whether they are in book, show or movie form, and M. Night Shyamalan writes that so well.

This movie follows a dad and daughter that have a once in lifetime experience of going to a concert for Lady Raven, who Riley, the daughter, is absolutely obsessed with. Her dad bought her the tickets and planned a little daddy daughter date for them both to go. Upon getting there, the dad sees that there are an abundance of police officers and even the SWAT team, which feels a little excessive for a concert, so he asks the guy at the merch stand. He informs the dad, Cooper, that the whole concert is actually a trap for this murderer that, they have reason to believe, will be at this concert. The Butcher has to be there, and is going to get caught because there is no way out. Little does the merch guy know, he is telling the killer himself that they are waiting for him. What will Cooper do? Can he and Riley get out? Can he keep up the “family man:” persona he so lovingly curated?

Overall I have to say, not my favorite of Shyamalan’s films, but still very good. He really set it up for a sequel, which I love and I hate. I didn’t feel like this movie had quite as many twists and turns as his other movies, but I would still suggest it.
