Movie Review: Timecut

November 22, 2024

I am going to be honest, I am not sure how I feel about this movie. It made me feel nostalgic and a fondness for my siblings, but I don’t love the ending. I will do my best not to give any spoilers in this review, but we will see how it goes.

We follow the story of a young girl named Lucy who lives in the shadow of her older sister, who passed away years before she was even born. Her older sister, Summer, was a town sweetheart, and everyone just adored her. In April of 2003, she and her closest friends, all end up getting murdered by the Sweetly Slasher, and he never gets caught. There are suspects, but they all have alibis and no one ever knows what happens. We jump back to April 2024 and Lucy is at the memorial site of her sister, Summer, when she stumbles upon a strange machine, whirring in the background. Before she knows it, she is transported back to 2003, the night before her sister gets murdered, and she has to decide if she wants to stop it, how she is going to stop it, if she does want to stop it, and how to get home, back to her timeline.

This movie has sisterhood, friendship, romance, betrayal and fear. And generally, these things would be a perfect recipe for an interesting story, but I am not so sure I loved this one. It had lot of plot holes and there were things that seemed to just be left out, or added in, with little to no explanation. The ending is strange and unexpected, but not in the way that I generally enjoy. I guess I would suggest this movie, but I would go into it with pretty low expectations.
