Movie Review: Red White and Royal Blue
August 16, 2023
I am going to be honest, I was really not expecting much from this movie. I knew that it was based off a well loved book, but it has very few names that I recognized ( it seemed like they spent all their actor budget on making Uma Thurman the president ) but I was very pleasantly surprised.
Firstly, this is going to have some spoiler if you don’t know the basic concept of the book/movie.
So, if you are not aware of the concept, it is about the son of the president ( Uma Thurman ) falls for the Prince of Whales. It was such a fun and sweet romance, while still touching on some big and scary topics such as race, English royalty traditions, fear, and commitment. It was fun and sweet, but it was also deep and emotional.
Based on the first scene, I was really not wanting to see the whole movie. It felt cheap and filled with poor acting, but I am glad I was not the one in charge of the remote. I really enjoyed this movie, especially coming in with low expectations. I would still agree with the thought that it felt cheap – there was a lot that felt rich, but there was a lot more than felt like there were corners cut in that area – but that didn’t make me like it any less.
I will warn you, as to be expected, with the R rating, there are some intimate scenes and saucy language.
