Movie Review: Peanut Butter Falcon

January 28, 2020

I may have found my new favorite movie.

I am going to be honest, I was quite the skeptic. I was one-hundred percent sure it was going to be super artsy – Shia is doing a lot of artsy films lately – or that it was just going to be slow. There was nothing slow about this film.

The plot was simple and sweet. The acting was genuine and bold. The filming was characteristic and did nothing but add to the film.

Tyler (Shia ), is a misunderstood loner in a small fishing town in North Carolina. He accidentally meets Zack (who happens to be named Zack in real life ) because they are both on the run from something. Tyler is on the run from his past and the bad guys he did wrong and Zack is on the run from the retirement home that he lives in where Elenor (Dakota) takes care of him. Zack runs away because he is chasing his dream to become a wrestler, and he climbs in the un-expecting Tyler’s boat in order to hide. This starts them on a journey of self discovery for both of them and a road toward a friendship and brotherhood neither of them knew they needed.

This movie was sweet and simple and honest. It addressed the “R” word and the impact that it has on Zack in the film and also in real life. It address what loosing someone close to you can be like. It address what “coming of age” looks like in more phases of life than just teen-hood. It was deep and moving and incredibly well done.
