Movie Review: Blink Twice

September 6, 2024

I will start out by notifying you of the tiggers are present in this film. There is quite a bit of gore and violence. There is also sexual abuse, but it is fairly mild in comparison to the gore and violence and takes up much less screen time. Still, if this is something that would stir bad memories or feelings, please do mindful of these things going into the film.

If you have read this blog before, or if you know me personally, you know that I am a huge fan of twists and turns, and boy was this movie full of them. Just when I though that I had figured things out, and that I had the twist figured out, there was another things that sent me reeling.

We follow the story of friends named Frida and Jess who are waiters for a catering company and feel like they are barely scraping by. They are also roommates and joined at the hip. Last year, they worked an event for a big tech producer, Slater King, who is known for being a bit of a bad boy. He has since come out with a statment that he has changed his ways and he is so sorry for his actions. He has bought an island and is living a simple life there, with chickens and organically grown produce, and Frida is smitten. She got in trouble last year for talking to him to much at this event, and now that it has come around again this year, she has a plan to get her and her friend closer to the action once they have finished their work for the day. One thing leads to another, and Frida gets a chance to talk to Slater again, and he invites her and Jess to his island with his friends for the weekend. She feels like she is finally happy and life is sweet. She is falling for the guy of her dreams, she has her best friend by her side, she has no responsibilities or worries…or does she? Can life really be this sweet and carefree? Does this guy really like her? Why can’t she remember what day of the week it is and why does that landlady keep calling her “Red Robin”?

I walked away from this movie with a headache from furrowing my brow for two hours straight and my mind reeling from all the twists that were pulled. I highly suggest this movie as long as you read through the triggers beforehand.
