Movie Review: Ballad of the Songbirds and the Snakes

June 19, 2024

Before I get started, this review has spoilers.

“Lucy Gray’s” accent the whole time was rather distracting. It felt out of place without hearing other people talk that way. I know Rachel is a broadway star and she has a gorgeous voice, but it also felt like that was the whole point of the movie - to show off how good of a singer she is.

I feel like we are missing something in the destruction of their relationship. Maybe it was because I couldn’t hear very well ( I watched this on a plane earlier this month), but it seemed like they had just started the relationship and then they were willing to run away together. I wonder if there will be more explained in the next one that they do, because they really set it up to have more than one. At the beginning I was a little sad that I felt connected to Snow and knowing the destruction that he causes, but in the end you see the way that the current state of the world has hardened him, rather than softening him. In the end he doesn’t stand up for the one friend that he has, and lies to the girl that he, at least pretends to love.

Overall I probably wouldn’t watch this again by choice.
