Book ( s ) Review: The Tea Dragon Society by K.O’Neill

October 2, 2023

If ever there was a book (series) that I wanted to live in, this would be it. This series is beautiful, thoughtful, emotional and fantastical.

I have read another one of K. O’Neill’s books and continually find myself drawn to their work. There was a day that my husband and I went to the board game shop near our home, and I kept finding things that I loved the artwork of and every time it was illustrated by K. O’Neill. They have created multiple graphic novels and a couple of games based on these books and every one is simply stunning. If you want to see more of their work, follow them on instagram @stragelykatie

This series has something for everyone. They touch on deep and hard subjects with such beauty and ease while filling the pages with beauty and excitement. The first book follows the story of a young blacksmith and her family. She makes friends and learns about other people and gets to experience other people’s relationships while developing deep and lasting friendships of her own.

The second book takes place quite a few years before the first, and we get a little bit of a look into the life of a couple of the friends our little blacksmith had made. We learn about where they came from and who they were before they became staples in their small community.

Lastly, the third book takes place a year after the first and is the most emotional and thought provoking of the three. It touches on grief and friendship and love and the ways the we experience these differently, but are able to support each other in spite of that.

If I could climb into these books, I would, they are cozy and beautiful and I could not suggest them more. Like I said earlier, there is something in these books for everyone. There is something I can relate to in each character and I look forward to reading them again and sharing them with my loved ones.
