The Art Of Afternoon Coffee

May 20, 2019

I have never been someone who has coffee in the afternoon.

I’m not sure why. It could be because I didn’t have time or that I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to sleep pr maybe it was a pride issue in thinking that I didn’t need that extra boost like other people do.

But now I do.

I started working at a flower farm and my boss is a coffee drinker. She always has a coffee in her hands. She is always filling up with more caffeine, and at first I thought it was just a her thing, but it may just be a working-outside-all-day-in-the-hot-sun thing. Also, for the entirety of me working at the farm so far it has been cold and rainy, so a warm pick-me-up in the middle of the day has been essential. It allows you to get off the farm and spend some time in the cute little small town that plays old hits from their speakers on the courthouse all day long. It allows you to get a little jolt of energy after a full morning of physically strenuous tasks. And it allows you to support small, local businesses.

There is a little coffee shop in town that is tucked away out of plain sight, but it has some of the best drip coffee I’ve had in a while. It is strong and flavorful and gets the job done.

Along with all of this, it gives you a moment to rest. We do a really bad job of resting as a society. We are so driven and focused that we forget to fill ourselves back up. We need to readapt this into our routines.
