Show review: The Haunting Of Bly Manor
September 18, 2024
I am not someone who loves to be scared, I never have been and I never will be, but this collection of shows is so good I cannot resist. A couple of years ago, I saw Hill House and absolutely loved it. The psychological aspect was haunting and so well done that I really wanted to watch some of the other shows produced by this team. I will say, though, that this was not quite what I had expected. I knew that a lot of people liked Hill House better than Bly Manor or Midnight Mass or The House Of Usher, so I expected to not like it as much, but I was very pleasantly surprised.
We follow the story of a young woman who moves overseas from her home in order to work as an au pair for a young family that had been through a lot lately. She was previously a school teacher, and figured that this would be an easy, and effortless, change of pace from her filled classroom. Little did she know, the home that she was going to be living in, was haunted, by many things. The children were haunted by the loss of their parents, the grounds keeper was haunted by the loss of her marriage, the chef was haunted by the loss of his mothers mind and the halls were haunted by The Lady Of The Lake.
Overall, I cannot say enough good things about this show. I will warn you, though, that this is not a story of haunting, but more a love story than anything else. A devastating, beautiful, thought provoking story of love; wholesome, toxic, forbidden and unspoken love stories. I highly suggest.
