Movie Review: Totally Killer
August 12, 2024
I am going to be honest, I wasn’t expecting this to be good. I have heard very little about it, and really didn’t think that it would be nearly as good as it actually was. I really liked it!
So the movie takes place around Halloween 2023, where we meet our heroine, Jamie. She is 16 years old and just wants to spend time with her friends, but her mom is so nervous about her leaving the house around Halloween because, 35 years earlier, in 1987, her three best friends were murdered and they never caught the killer. Her mother is anxious and protective of Jamie, but Jamie thinks she is just overreacting, until she comes home, that very night, and finds her mother dead, stabbed 16 times, just like her three friends were 35 years before. Distraught, Jamie goes to her friend, Amelia, who happens to be working on a Time Machine for the school fair in order to prove that her mother’s theories were right - that time travel is possible. Out of no where, there sweet sixteen killer shows up and tries to kill Jamie, when she goes to hide in the time machine that Amelia was creating and accidentally goes back in time.
This movie was honestly quite heartwarming. It had scary moments, but overall, it was filled with friendship between teenagers who were willing to stand up for one another. It was filled with daughters who mended their relationships with their mothers ( which is refreshing after having read so many memoirs about mothers passing and the devastating relief that came along with their passings ) and grew into better women because of it. I did not expect who the killer was, and although I am not sure they gave us enough clues to feel like that was logical, I still liked the movie. It was more about the relationships than it was about the killings anyway.
Overall I would recommend, especially if you have parents who, or personally did, grow up in the 80s.
