Movie review: Our Little Secret

December 18, 2024

We have been watching cheesy Christmas movies like nobody’s business this year, and I have to say, most have not been good. That is not to say that I did not enjoy them. In fact, I think I liked them more because they were bad, it is part of the charm, but this one was actually good.

We follow the story of a woman named Avery who is going home with her boyfriend for Christmas, and meeting his family for the first time. Cam, her boyfriend, is a jerk and doesn’t tell her that he has a really intense family or that he is weirdly close to his mom ( who is played by our girl, Kristen Chenoweth, better known for making the role of Galinda famous ). Upon getting to the house, Cam’s mom instantly hates her and she meets his little sister, Cassie who also brought her new boyfriend home for the holidays, and he just so happens to be Avery’s ex, Logan. Not only was Logan her ex, they were childhood best friends and almost engaged. Avery, feeling desperate to make Cam’s family like her, tells Logan that they cannot tell the family that they dated, or that they even know each other, and for whatever reason, Logan agrees. As you can imagine, this does not go well, and chaos ensues.

There is family drama, reconnecting with long lost loved ones, grief, betrayal, romance, and fear for the future. Lindsay’s face is a little stiff for the crying scenes, but that is the biggest complaint I have. I thought this movie was sweet and had just the right amount of chaos. I would suggest adding this movie to your holiday watch list this year.
