For The Future

June 26, 2024

When I am feeling uninspired, I need reminders of all the things I feel like I want to do in my lifetime. Life is short, and I have been feeling that a lot lately. So much so, that Eli and I have talked about being really mindful about not looking back at old photos at the moment and not talking about things that have long past that we wish we could go back and change or relieve. It has been a really fast season, that we are in, and we need to take a moment and just enjoy where we are at. But anyway, I need to make a list of things I am looking forward to and dreaming about someday doing, so that looking back isn’t always my knee jerk ( it has been my whole life - I gave always been painfully aware of the passage of time and had a deep longing for it to move a little slower - even from a very young age I remember being mindful of making note of everything in a journal or a diary so that I could look back on it and be able to remember who I was at that moment in time).

Here is a list of things I think would be lively to do or complete in the next handful of years:

  • make my own clothes - I have a sewing machine that I really enjoy using, but have been in a bit of a rut as to what to use it for, and what better use than clothing? I would really love to “upcycle” clothes that I find at the thrift store or buy old sheets to use as fabric for the clothing that I make.

  • create more - I have been wanting to get back into painting ( hence this website, honestly ) but have made excuse after excuse and right now, being unemployed, I really have no excuses at all! It is my time to create things that I love and share them with others.

  • start a garden - while I am currently in an apartment, I am pretty limited on space, but we do plan on being here for a bit longer than we have been in places in the past ( other than growing up obviously ) so I think I would like to invest in a little balcony garden that I can cultivate in the warmer months.

  • start a book-ish and artsy YouTube channel - I love watching YouTubers and I often very inspired to create when watching them. I also think this is a great way for people to consume content from people, that feels very personal, but the creator can share with the world what they want, and leave out what they don’t. I love blogging, more than a lot of hobbies I have, but I think it is a little bit out of fashion, and vlogging on YouTube is a little more in, so it is a lovely way to continue that while being a touch more relevant.

  • start a family - this is a new development; I have not been sure I want to have children for a long time, but my mind has changed, and I do see that in our future.

  • write a book - while the little story I am currently releasing is not great, I am aware it needs a lot of work before being a proper story, I think putting the thought into a novel and producing a book would be a lot of fun and very rewarding.

  • take singing lessons - I used to take singing lessons growing up, and it is disheartening when I know I was a much better singer before, simply because I am out of practice. I want to lean into something that I have loved since I was a small child, and stretch muscles that have long grown stiff.

  • learn to crochet or knit (or both) - technically, I know how to do both of these, I am just not very good. I would love to be able to create things for my future children and my nieces and nephews that they actually use.

  • move my body more - I love to swim and do yoga and hike, but I have not moved my body as much as I would like lately because I have been exhausted for months so I want to spend more time doing the things I enjoy and learning more about my body through the movement.

  • travel - I want to experience a lot of different cultures and ways of life. I think it is so important to learn about ( and from ) other people and not just be so focused on oneself and I think there is a lot of that that can happen when traveling to new places and meeting new people.

  • live overseas - piggybacking off of the thought of travel, I think it is so important to learn from other people and other cultures, and I think it would be so lovely to go and live among a different culture, even if it is just for a year or two.
