Album Review: Folklore by Taylor Swift
August 11, 2020
So, in case you hadn’t heard, Taylor Swift came out with a new album with no warning at all. This is very unlike her and I love that! I love that she is constantly changing and adapting like any normal adult would, she is just in the public eye and isn’t afraid to lose fans as she grows and changes.
I digress.
I love this new album. It feels like she’s coming home. It feels like she’s coming back to her roots, without being unchanged. She’s not going back to who she was when she was 15 writing songs about Drew not noticing her. She’s writing songs about adulthood and memories and growing up. They’re hard topics that, she even admits, don’t all apply directly to her. In the past she has often written solely about what was happening to her and the story she wanted to tell of herself, but this album is just a story. It is filled with feelings that she has felt and ways she has been seen, but it is about other people more than it’s about her.
There are always theories about how each song is connected and what each song means. Taylor is queen of the Easter egg. The whole album has been rumored to be one story infolding, but each song can stand alone.
I have not been a huge fan of hers the last couple years simply because I didn’t super love her music, but I am back.
